About Artefilo

Artefilo is an independent industrial design studio that creates unique functional art pieces. Our artefacts fuse distinctive forms, playful colors and textures and are printed with 100% upcycled materials into functional art pieces.

Our Story

Artefilo was founded by Guido Baratta after a nearly 30-year career in digital product design leadership across Europe and the United States. An architect and industrial designer by training, Guido began experimenting with designing and 3D printing his own products to return to his most cherished roots.

Guido's designs are characterized by joyful expression, high usability, extreme simplicity, and the use of uncommon materials. He draws inspiration from the Bauhaus pottery workshop and the Fris pottery tradition, which began 75 years ago in the same historic city where the Artefilo workshop stands today.

Guido's unwavering commitment to circularity and sustainability is a cornerstone of Artefilo's mission. His passion for the natural environment and mindful design is evident in his ongoing efforts to minimize waste, discover new organic sources for materials, and adopt printing processes that ensure the complete circularity of the products manufactured in the workshop.

Our Process

Each object is meticulously designed, printed, tested, and assembled on demand in our workshop in Edam, Noord-Holland. This hands-on approach reflects our commitment to creating fully circular products that minimize material waste and can be easily customized to customers' personal tastes.

Artefilo products are primarily made from r-PLA (Recycled Polylactic Acid) and r-PETG (Recycled Polyethylene Glycol Terephthalate). These materials can be reclaimed up to six times, regenerating new products without creating additional waste. Guido also experiments with blending organic materials into the foundational recycled filaments, including wood chips, dirt, rice, grass, durum (pasta), glass waste, coffee beans, wine residue, and sea shells.

We constantly conduct thorough research into the origins of all Artefilo materials and exclusively select 100% recycled filament blends that can be traced back to sources within The Netherlands.
